Setting Up an At-Home Gym
Do you ever want to workout more, but find it’s far too inconvenient in your daily routine to consistently make it to the gym? Well, you can avoid that whole headache by bringing the gym home to you. Installing a home gym is a great way to get motivated and make it more convenient to get a daily workout in.
This enables you to just grab a quick workout after a big meal, or even workout in the morning to get yourself ready for a stressful day. Either way, there’s plenty of reasons on why you would want to have an at-home gym. Here are some tips on setting one up…
Find affordable exercises
To get started, know that you don’t need to break the bank trying to build an at-home gym. This can be something that you put together, gradually, so as not to incur one major cost all at once.
The first thing you should do is find some relaxing, easygoing exercise that you can do at home. To start it off, your gym could consist of a pullup bar, some dumbbells, and even a yoga mat.
Doing body resistance exercises (like pull ups and sit ups), simple yoga routines, and even simple body and mind control practices (such as meditation) help you get a great workout, but without the added costs of too much fancy equipment.
Get cardio staples
While you can do a lot of exercises with minimal equipment, you’re going to eventually want to add some nice amenities to your home gym.
Of these, one of the nicest things to add is a nice piece of cardio equipment, such as a treadmill, climber, or exercise bike.
Having a space to do cardio in your home makes it so you never have to use the weather as an excuse not to get a good run in.
However, one thing to remember is that these amenities can be expensive, as such, you want to make sure that you do an ample amount of research on what treadmill will work best for you and your needs.
Add strength equipment
After getting cardio, you’ll probably want some general strength training equipment to balance out your workout. You don’t have to break the bank and get an enormous weight set to do this.
After all, if the range of weights you are going to be lifting is within a specific range, why would you spend tons of money on weights that are way above or below that range?
If you want to set up an affordable at-home gym, then make sure that you are economical about the strength equipment you buy.
Getting some simple barbells and maybe a bench to do bench presses is going to give you everything you need to do calisthenic exercises, and other specialties.
Make sure you include racks, when buying weights, so that you have organizational amenities in your gym, as well.
Install foam flooring
This is an important step that is forgotten way too often, but the flooring that you use to exercise is an important component of a home gym.
When doing strength training, or any type of impact exercise where your feet or body are coming down on the floor, it is important that you have a soft, yet stable, landing zone.
For this reason, you want to install specialized foam flooring to get the most of you at-home gym. In addition, this will increase the lifespan of your exercise equipment, as well as your joints.
Get seating
This is another step that is too often neglected, but many different exercises need a seat to be done properly, especially for strength training.
In addition, having a space to sit down after an intense workout is a must-have for any complete gym. For this reason, don’t skimp out on getting some decent benches for your at-home gym.
