Know Your Scrap Metal
Aluminum, steel, brass and copper. You probably don’t realize you have these metals lying around your house and that your local scrapyard will pay you a pretty penny for these metals. So where can you find these metals in your home? Well, it’s not as hard as finding Waldo but it can be just as fun! Begin an awareness campaign in your home by playing a game with your kids and asking them to find these metals in your home. The infographic below will help you out with interesting bits of information about each of these metals. Let’s save energy by recycling and conserve our natural resources and … earn some money in the process.
Now that you and your family are aware of the kind of metals found in different household items, why not get the family involved in a recycling initiative? A good place to start would be the garage—if you’re anything like me—there’s probably loads of stuff there that has not seen the light of day. Get rid of things you don’t need. I can tell you from personal experience – you’ll feel REALLY good as you de-clutter your home. You’ll definitely want to find items with copper. Copper is the most valuable of these four metals, and it is found in electric cables, radiators and household items like spoons, forks, door knobs, vacuum cleaners, pots and pans, and more. If you have no use for these items and other household items containing aluminum, brass and steel, gather them together and load them in the trunk of your car and make a trip to your local scrapyard. You’ll probably find a SIMS Metal Management recycling facility somewhere near you since there are several across the country. Plan a recycling initiative in your home at least once a year. Teach the next generation to live green!
