Investment Pieces To Buy For The Family
What I find very uncommon within the world of gift giving, whether it’s for Christmas, birthdays or any form of gifting giving in-between, is that we don’t tend to think of buying things that would add monetary value to their lives and is 9 times out of 10 something they may only appreciate for a limited time and immediately decrease in value.
This all came to me for my birthday this year, my dad, is very much in the mindset of investing and saving for his pension.
As someone who has worked for himself for the majority of his life, it has become more important than ever for him to find alternative pensions than relying on a state pension.
Nonetheless, he has passed on this mindset to me and began to give myself and my siblings solid gold and solid silver as forms of investments for our birthdays.
This is just one example of ways you can invest in your family’s future.
This gesture for my birthday got me thinking about gift giving and while trips, cash and so forth are something they may ask for, it’s good to keep in the back of your mind what things they will appreciate further down the line.
Here are some great examples of gifts that can double up as investment pieces for your family.
Jewellery
This might be the most obvious one, but it’s not just any type of jewellery; it’s solid gold, silver, antique, diamond and lifetime-standing pieces that will never depreciate in value.
The beauty of these elements is that while they might remain stagnant in value like silver, they never ever truly drop in value and in fact, for example, gold, which is currently at its most valued right now, is amazing for those who have got gold pieces.
It’s the same with any solid gold or silver items, from candles to cutlery to cufflinks.
It’s the best way to gift something beautiful that also maintains its value later in life.
I would recommend looking at both old and new pieces or letting them pick out a nice piece of jewellery.
Coins Of Silver and Gold
While the heading might give it away, however, you can buy solid pieces of gold and silver that are in coin form; for example, I have been gifted one with the English rose on it, and it’s a great piece of investment that you can keep safely locked away in the house; you aren’t at risk of losing it like you would when wearing jewellery, and it’s a lot more affordable and easy to collect over time.
I think this is a good gift idea as well because they are a little keepsake and token of love, as you are gifting these, it’s the purest form of looking out for your relative, which I really like about this form of investment gift.
Clothing
When I talk about clothing, you can really make a lot of money by reselling these pieces if they are branded, vintage and unique.
For example, if you happened to pick up a vintage real fur coat in a charity shop or large market, you could make hundreds even thousands of pounds because it’s not only something we don’t make anymore and its definitely people want to buy guilt-free.
This is just one example but it’s also the same with buying modern men’s streetwear one-of-a-kind pieces like footwear limited edition stock, where fashion fanatics are willing to pay double or even triple the asking price so if you do your research and you are clever about it, you can gift your family member something they can appreciate and then sell on later down the line.
Art Work or Collectibles
These are a great way to invest but also get something your family would love and appreciate.
For example, my mother used to collect beanie babies and now they have been labelled as really rare and prized things to have.
Just take a look on Google and they are selling for up to £15,000 plus, which is insane when you think about it but it’s very common for things like teddies, action figures and other items to become great investment pieces.
Something I see following in beanie babies’ footsteps is things like rare jelly cats.
But this is just one route to go down. You can go down the artistic route and buy from small-town artists in the hope they become great in the future or buy grand pieces knowing they will likely always remain in value.
Artwork is a great gift because it holds as memorable and is set pride of place in their home, which I think is really sweet.
Final Thoughts
When it comes to investing for your family, try to mix in their personal quirks, personalities and generally what you think they would with something that will bring value to their future.
It’s a great way to learn for yourself and educate your family on the importance of investing.
