Green Ways to Save Money
Now more than ever before, the earth needs our help to protect it. We have all seen the news reports that clearly state that pollution levels are dangerously and almost irreversibly high.
We have all seen pictures of beaches littered with garbage, from cups to bottles, from cans to plastic bags.
We have all seen pictures of videos of animals that have died as a result of interacting with pollution.
We have all seen the statistics that show how badly the air is polluted with dangerous chemicals and toxic fumes.
And we all know that something definitely needs to change.
When we see statistics like those, it is often easy for us to think that it’s not our problem. Many people think that their contribution to the problem is relatively insignificant, so they talk themselves out of making any lifestyle changes in order to reduce their impact on the environment.
But the truth is, it’s everybody’s problem. We all share this earth, and the only person any of us can really control is ourselves.
Whether or not our individual impact is relevant isn’t important, because when everybody convinces themselves that it’s not their problem, that’s when the most damage is done.
So what can we do, then? If we’re looking for a way to reduce our impact on the earth, where do we start?
That question can be tricky, but that’s exactly what I’m here to answer. I’ve made a list of some simple things that everybody can easily do that will have a lasting positive impact on the planet.
And, what’s more, doing these things will save you some money as well, so you’ll be saving some green by going green.
It’s a win/win! Here are 7 green ways to save money.
Conserve Water
When it comes to water conservation, a small change can make a huge difference. It has been estimated that the Average American uses around 80 gallons of water every single day.
When you consider the fact that there are over 325 million people living in America, you’ll likely notice that that is an astounding amount of water.
If every American reduced their water usage by just one gallon each day, we would save over 118 billion gallons of water every year!
Here are a few things you can do to conserve water.
- Install low-flow shower heads.
- Always fill up your washing machine.
- Put a brick in your toilet. This will reduce the amount of water that is used by each flush.
Conserve Energy
Our homes use a lot of energy, and a lot of the energy that they use is unnecessary. By making a few small changes, we can conserve energy and help the planet in the process. Here’s how!
- Get a programmable thermostat. While you’re at it, make sure that your air conditioner is in good condition so that it works more efficiently.
- Replace the weather stripping on your doors and windows. That will help to keep your house insulated, which means you won’t need to use your heater and air conditioner as much.
Reduce Waste
One of the most serious problems that the earth is facing is pollution. We use a lot of stuff, most of which ends up in landfills or scattered around the earth (in the ocean, mostly). By being smart about the choices we make, we can reduce the waste we produce and save some money while we save the earth.
- Use rechargeable batteries. Not only will this save you some cash, but it will definitely help save the earth. An incredible amount of batteries are thrown away each year, and due to what they’re made out of, they can cause some serious damage to the earth.
- Take care of your car. Keeping up on fluid changes, rotating tires, and having your car inspected periodically will all help it to run more efficiently and reduce its impact on the environment. Cars are one of the leading contributors to air pollution, but we can reduce that impact by making sure the car is in good condition.
