There used to be a time when you could not apply online for Section 8, but that is no longer the case as more and more cities are now providing means by which you can apply on the Internet. You just need to go to your city’s official website and find the Section 8 link.

How to Apply on the Internet

Once you get to your city’s website, there should be a link there to housing or Section 8. If you don’t know much about it, it is a good idea to read it and learn the facts about the program. Even if you know the basic facts, it is still a good idea to read it as each city or state may be implementing some rules that differ from other states.

Now all you need to do is look for the online application that pertains to Section 8 and fill it up. Fill it up with truthful information and make sure that all required fields are filled up.

When you are done, click “submit”.

Note that some sites do not allow you to submit forms online. All they provide is a form for you to fill up and then mail to the address provided.

Either way, you just have to submit the form as stated. All you need to do now is wait for the reply. The only time that you need to make modifications to the form is if your family income goes up or the number of family members that will be living with you changes.

If your info changes, go back to the site where you submitted the form and look for the option that allows you to change the form, or send a notification to your PHA via the website about the changes. It is vital that you let your local housing authority know about this.

Filling up a Section 8 Form

It is essential that you fill the Section 8 form correctly as any mistake can lead to rejection. At the same time, a correctly filled form can lead to faster processing of your paper and a shorter time on the waiting list. For this reason, it is essential that you go through the application so you understand what it is about. In particular it pays to study the questions first.

You can apply for an application with the HUD or your local PHA, or you can go to other websites online that, for a small fee, will do it for you. These sites are not associated with HUD, but the main attraction here is they help you with the application process and can make the process quicker. In addition, they can provide you with a list of locations where there are shorter waiting lists.

Other Info

Regardless of however you get the application form, you will be asked to provide some basic facts about yourself, your employment and rent history as well as your current address. In addition, you have to provide information about your household’s combined income as well as the number of people who will be living with you if you get Section 8 approval.

Note that all the individuals who are going to live with you must be family members. Also, the application, whether it is online or the office, will only be valid if you present proof of income and identification.
