Life hacks are popular online because they provide quick and simple solutions to problems that anyone can implement in a matter of minutes. These include things like quicker ways to tie your laces; smart recipes you can make from home and clever tricks you can use to be more productive. To be a good life hack, these tips should be clever, easy to implement and clearly beneficial.

Life hacks that save you money then could potentially offer you a nearly effortless way to improve your finances and save time too. Here are some of the best of them…

Turn Down the Brightness on Your TV

The brightness on your TV affects how much light your TV outputs, and as you hopefully remember from science class light is of course a form of energy. In short then, turning down the brightness on your TV can help you to use less energy, just as turning the brightness down on your smartphone or laptop can help it to last through the day longer. Struggling to see your TV on a lower brightness setting? Then consider moving it to a different part of the room where there’s less glare. Who’d have thought rearranging your living room could save your heating bill?

Buy Lunch From Within the Store

When you’re out on the town, buying food is an unwanted but highly necessary expense. Fortunately you can save money by buying food at a Supermarket instead of a fast-food joint (and it’s actually quicker too…) but why not go one further and go deeper within the store where the foods aren’t meant to be quick ‘snacks’. Here you can get much more bang for your buck – a whole loaf of bread and ham for less than a packaged sandwich, or four pints of apple juice in a carton for less than a bottle of water. Venture within the store and you’ll save a lot and you can use the leftovers later!

Transfer $10 to Savings Every Day

It’s an easy and quick thing to do and you’ll hardly miss $10 out of your budget (especially if you make up for it in other ways). Still, by sticking to this goal and doing it every day you can quickly save a huge amount of money!

Re-Use Your Tea Bags

If you really want to squeeze every penny out of your weekly shop, then a great way to do so is to re-use all your old teabags. Most bags are good for two cups of tea, and this way you can essentially get them for half price…

Share Bath Water

If you’re in a relationship and neither of you is particularly dirty, then sharing a bath is a great way to save on your heating that will make a big dent in your bill over time. Better yet, why not shower together occasionally? It’s a great way to bring yourselves closer together and save money in the process!

Reconnect Your Bathroom Fan

A lot of bathroom extractor fans are set up to come on whenever you have the light on for more than ten minutes. This helps to remove excess water in the atmosphere and can save you energy – but if it’s coming on when you’re just brushing your teeth then it’s a big waste of power. The solution is to rewire the device to work with the electric shower instead so that it only comes on when you need it. Or alternatively you can just try to remember to switch it off before shaving and doing other lengthy-but-dry activities.

That One Thing You Don’t Need

Most of us have similar routines that we go through on a daily basis, some of which involve spending cash – and usually there will be at least one of these regular expenses you can cut out. For instance you might find yourself spending money regularly on the bus fare to work in which case you can start riding your bike. You might get an Espresso on the journey in – which you can replace with a coffee at home. Find that one thing you can cut without affecting your lifestyle too much and you’ll quickly start noticing a difference…
